Baltimore Maryland. Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Nelson Cruz, 34, who signed a one year, $8 million contract before the start of the 2014 Major League Baseball season will be a free agent at the end of the current baseball season.
Cruz made his Major League Baseball debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005. Cruz has also played baseball with the Texas Rangers from 2006-2013.
If Cruz does not sign a new contract with the Baltimore Orioles during the off season, Cruz could sign a new contract with another Major League baseball team that would be willing to pay Cruz his market value.
The management of the Baltimore Orioles has the challenge of signing Cruz to a new contract during the off season or before the conclusion of the current baseball season.
What is likely to happen is that the Orioles management will negotiate a new contract with Cruz after the current baseball ends since the Orioles are currently in first place in the American League East Division. The Orioles management want to remain focused on making the postseason this year.
Cruz is one of the most valuable players on the Orioles roster. It is unlikely that Cruz will leave the Orioles to play for another baseball team if he is not happy with his current salary with the Orioles when he becomes a free agent at the end of the current baseball season. Cruz would like to play a baseball team that is in contention to win a World Series before he retires from the game.
