New Delhi, India: In a recent decision made at the Telecom Department of India in New Delhi, no handset which is not having a valid international Mobile Equipment Identity would be blocked with the help of operators, and a request has already been made to all operators currently functional in India. This is likely to affect almost about 25 million mobile phone users using handsets purchased from the grey market who may see their services disconnected starting from today.
It can be mentioned that purchase of handsets not having the required standard were very much in practise due to their low price and easy availability. This was also blooming due to the fact that a considerable proportion of Indian population using the service were not literate to get into such depth of all such technical glitches. As a result, use of Mobile phones in terrorist activities were running in flow,as recent investigations showed.
