Government of Bangladesh has knocked down an attempt to arrange a demonstration program organizing by an online activist group this afternoon in the country’s capital city, Dhaka. The online activists were arranging a program to express solidarity with the students of Jagannath University (a public university). The government recently enacted a law for the universities stating the varsity would be self-reliant and have to bear all expenses itself. As a result the university raised the tuition fee 10 times than the past. The students refused to pay the fees and were protesting to change the law, the government tried to demolish the movement brutally by beating and arresting numerous numbers of students.
The online activists were arranging a solidarity meeting in Dhaka University area this afternoon while Police and cadres of government-party student organization attacked on the online activists. Police arrested 29 internet activists from the gathering. The activists re-united after a while and demanded immediate release of the activists as the program was non-violent and peaceful. The activists expressed solidarity to the students of Jagannath University and demanded immediate release of the students as well.
