Bank strike irk business men & customers in Jammu

Common resident and Business community in Jammu is facing tough times due to frequent shutdowns and long strikes. During the two day long Jammu bandh call all banking institutions remained closed on Monday and just after one working day banks were again closed for two days on Wednesday leaving them in the lurch. Large number of business men who solely demand on current banking transactions will have to wait till Friday to complete their pending works and clear bills and payments.

The common customer also faced many hardships as he or she was taken by surprise when they saw closed doors of the bank branches across the Jammu city.

The common people were not aware that lakhs of employees of public sector banks went on nationwide strike to protest merger and consolidation in the sector and delay in settlement of issues like wage revision from Wednesday.

Ashok Kumar, a youth from Ramban arrived in Jammu to submit some important papers related to his education loan but realized that bank branches were closed and he had to wait till Friday.

The people who visit Jammu from far off places to transact routine businesses in different bank branches were a harried lot as they were not aware of the strike call.The banking employees went on strike after high level talks failed with Chief labour commissioner.

The Forum has given the two-day strike call to protest delay in settlement of issues like wage revision, second pension option, he said. Employees are also protesting the government’s policy of privatization and consolidation.
