Bankruptcy Court Dress Code

My firm received a letter concerning a debtor from the United States Bankruptcy Court in Tampa, Florida.  It contained this.  "Appropriate Courtroom Attire. You are reminded that Local Rule 5072-1(b)(16) requires that all persons appearing in Court should dress in business attire consistent with their financial abilities. Shorts, sandals, shirts without collars, including tee shirts and tank tops, are not acceptable."

It is amusing that such a statement was needed.  The part about "consistent with their financial abilities" caught my eye.  I was reminded of the cartoons I grew up with showing the taxpayer nude except for a barrel suspended by straps.

Let the dress fit the bankruptcy?
