A scientist working for Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was on Wednesday booked for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman and passing lewd comments. Hemkant Mhatre, who is also the secretary of a Marathi medium school run by BARC staffers, was booked after a teacher filed a complaint of various kinds of harassment over a period of time, deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-VI), Mr Niket Kaushik said.
"Mhatre troubled the teacher for a long time, passing lewd comments at her as well as touching her. As the secretary of the association that runs Nutan Vidya Mandir, he used to look after the day to day functioning of the school," Mr Kaushik said. The police received a complaint from the teacher some months ago and filed a case against Mhatre on Wednesday after ascertaining the claims of the complainant, Mr Kaushik added.
