It is sad to learn from media reports that Filipina domestic helpers in Great Britain were portrayed in a bad light.
And the culprit is the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), which aired a Filipina DH doing some gyration to impress her would-be employer in London. What is painful here is that I don’t see the logic at all why the BBC conceptualized the idea of showing it before billions of people worldwide, and putting the image of Filipina domestic helpers in an awkward position. I really don’t know if it was meant to demean Filipino women for them to stop doing their jobs as domestic helpers. I just don’t see the logic.
Consequently, cause-oriented organizations in the Philippines and Filipino communities across the world are calling on the BBC to make an apology for what it did to destroy the Filipina image. In fact, Edgardo Espiritu, Philippine ambassador to Great Britain, has also called on the BBC to do the same.
Why in the world some Britons just can’t think of something else, rather than destroy other personalities whose only purpose is to earn an honest living through sheer hardwork. With this development, I’m not really sure what the Philippine government do to make it even. As the saying goes, "there are many ways to skin a cat."
I’m not saying that all Britons are bad. However, there are some who really can’t control themselves if they can’t show the world that they are a superior race. The only problem is that I haven’t heard of anyone from that country whose bodily waste is gold or silver. As far as I’m concerned, everybody is equal on this earth. Not even a supernatural being!
