Be proactive to stamp out social evils: Mir exhorts women

 

 

Srinagar, October 13 (Scoop News) –   Minister for Agriculture  Ghulam Hassan Mir today said that women could be instrumental in stamping out social evils like dowry provided they are sensitized through sustained awareness about the ill effects of such societal disorders.

            The Minister was speaking at a seminar on ‘Dowry a Curse’, organized by a women organization here today.

            Mir said no society can develop unless its women folk  is educated, adding that qualified women have to play proactive role in carrying out social transformation. In any form-mother, daughter or sister, the woman voluntarily assumes the role of caretaker of the family, he said.

The Minister said that dowry curse can be eradicated by the efforts and determination of women themselves if they rise to the occasion. For the purpose strong will and self confidence is a must, he added.

The Minister said in order to put an end to the dowry system, every woman has to contribute in a missionary spirit and act decisively. 

            Among others, various prominent citizens including  former Director, Door Darshan s. Shahzadi Simon, Advocate Bilal Sultan, Abdul Rashid, Kh Riyaz Rahi and  Sarpanch Suriya spoke on the occasion and   suggested measures for eradicating menace of dowry from society.
