An unemployed German man in Berlin was fined 900 euros (approximately $1,277) for breaking down, or let’s say, beheading, the wax statue of Adolf Hitler in the Berlin Museum.
Only after a few minutes the Madame Tussauds museum inaugurated in Berlin, the 42 year old man rushed to the statue and ripped its head off. The man, who is also an ex police officer claimed he did so because he didn’t like the idea of a Nazi being 500 meters from the Berlin’s Holocaust memorial.
This wax statue of Hitler had already spurred a bit of controversy and debate in Germany even before it was on display. Critics and haters argued that it was "tasteless" to display the statue of a man who sparked the second World War and ordered the extermination of Jews in Europe.
The wax figure was eventually fixed and restored in the museum: it now stands behind a glass wall.
This waxwork was prepared by about twenty five workers who spent four months originally to create the statue. More than 2,000 pictures and other archive material was extracted and used to create the wax figure.
The waxwork has been a latest addition in the recently breaking taboos about Hitler in Germany after more than sixty years of the holocaust. Six million Jews were killed in the historical tragedy.
In Germany it is illegal to show Nazi symbols or any art that glorifies Hitler, therefore the idea of the statue was a strange one logically.
