Zooming on the roads with a belly full of alcohol on New Year eve will land you in ‘serious’ trouble with traffic police deciding to act tough.
This year, police plan to focus on drunken-driving and also book partygoers for dangerous driving.
“We will check vehicle-owners with breathe analysers on December 31 night and anyone found to be intoxicated will invite action”, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) V.S.K. Kaumudi said.
Police will patrol routes where most hotels and nightclubs are located and are toying with the idea of restricting entry on flyovers to prevent accidents.
Last year, motorists were found giving full throttle on the roads, noisily greeting other road-users.
There were instances in which some partygoers were involved in nuisance cases too.
One more factor is the rise in number of road accidents on December 31 night, including several fatal cases.
“In such a scenario, we have decided to be tougher this year,” he explained.
Apart from enforcement, traffic police are organising awareness campaign emphasising on ill-effects of drunken driving and over- speeding that lead to major number of accidents.
