With other a day left until Election Day on November 4, Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona have been campaigning heavily through the crucial battleground states. Florida is one of those battleground states.
Today, Senator Joe Biden of Delaware, the VP running-mate of Obama, was campaigning in Tallahassee, the capital of Florida. Biden would appear at the campus of Florida State University (FSU) and make the “closing arguments” of the campaign. The closing argument was simple, Biden urged supporters to reach out to the Republicans to create a bridge.
Supporters of McCain and his VP running-mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin attempted to interrupt the event.
Biden made a jab to the protesters by saying: “The fact of the matter is, maybe those McCain folks can hear this, they’d be interested back there. They can hear this – I’ll say it loudly as I can. I thought it was a siren, it’s just a whine.”
Interestingly enough, the protesters made a play on the recent Batman movie “The Dark Knight.” They would have signs of Obama with his face painted like the Joker. For those that have watched Dark Knight, Joker’s main line was “Why So Serious?”
The anti-Obama protesters made a play on that line. Instead of that line, it was “Why So Socialist?”
While Biden made a jab at the protesters, he did not insult them. Biden said that they were good people. He added that they were committed to McCain’s ideas. But Biden addressed the anti-Obama protesters as people that Democrats need to reach out to after Election Day on November 4.
Biden added that he was not joking. He would stress the importance of Democrats and Republicans working together.
In that regard, Biden addressed: “You think we’re going to get education reform? You think we’re going to re-establish and end this war and re-establish our place in the world without getting a significant portion of Republicans to agree with us as well? No one party can do this.”
While Biden made a jab at the protesters, it could be deemed a small jab at best. He focused more on the importance of Democrats reaching out to Republicans after Election Day to get things done.
However, Biden did make sure to focus a jab to McCain and Palin. Yesterday, Dick Cheney, the VP under current US President George W. Bush, publicly announced that he was casting his vote for McCain. That would pretty much count as an endorsement.
Obama made sure to “congratulate” McCain on the endorsement from Cheney.
Biden would make a play on Cheney’s endorsement. He said that McCain can keep the endorsement. Then, Biden said that he and Obama are happy getting endorsed by billionaire Warren Buffet and Colin Powell.
It was last week in which Powell gave his endorsement to Obama. This is considered one of the most powerful and symbolic endorsements given to Obama. Powell is one of the most prominent members let alone prominent black members of the GOP.
While anti-Obama protesters tried to make waves at the event, Biden in response said that they need to be reached out to.
