Vice president Joe Biden has scolded former Bush’s VP Dick Cheney for his negative comments on the present administration’s national security policies.
Biden was reacting to what Cheney said that "America is less safe now" under the administration of President Obama. I was appalled by what the former VP said against the present administration whose recent eight-day official trip in Europe was meant to re-strengthen economic and political ties with those countries. For example his side trip to Turkey, a majority Muslim country, was meant to foster greater ties and renew relationships with the Muslim world.
But it seemed some political critics, mostly former officials or strategists of the former Bush administration, are ganging up on President Obama’s program of governance. Specifically, they don’t agree that closing the Guantanamo Prison is ideal at this time when Muslim terrorists led by al-qaeda are reportedly eyeing for another attack against US targets. It is true that sending those now locked up at Gitmo should not be given a chance to set foot in the US mainland to face their crimes in the proper courts. However, sending them to their respective countries, where they came from, was taken as uncalled for because some observers believed that they will come back and harm the United States.
But many liberal minded people are saying that the more America employs torture of suspected terrorists, the more hatred may be generated because they believed that America is nothing but a bully. As far as I am concerned, what President Obama did to visit Turkey is to open up the avenues again and rebuild diplomatic relations with countries that believed America showed arrogance of power when it invaded Iraq, where thousands of military troops are now fighting the Muslim insurgents and at the same time, helping the Maliki government gets back to its feet after the fall of Saddam Hussein.
I see no reason why the Obama administration should be criticized for doing what it feels is good for the American interests. If some people admonish President Obama because of his being an African-American is already out of the issue. But that’s what some supporters feel at this time when all sorts of negative criticisms are being hurled at this administration, whose service has not even capped the 100-day target. Yet, some important accomplishments had already been done despite the feeling of discontentment levelled against him. It would now be up to the American people to decide as to whoever is right and wrong.
