Marcelo Bielsa has accepted the job with the Chilean national team. He was presented as coach of "La Roja" this afternoon at the ANFP headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

For the past two weeks, Federation president Harold Mayne- Nicholls was dealing with "El Loco" both bargaining with each other and working out the various snags that the negotiations had throughout the process.

Bielsa signed a three-year contract, with an option to renew if the national team reaches the main goal which is qualifying for the World Cup.
For Bielsa this will be the first job he takes in over three years when he suddenly stepped down as coach of the neighboring Argentine national team after winning their first-ever Olympic gold medal in football in the Athens games.

Besides that triumph in the 2004 games, Bielsa also won two domestic titles with Newell’s Old Boys (1990-91, Clausura 1992) as well as a title with Vélez Sarsfield (Clausura 1999). He also also led Newell’s to the Copa Libertadores final where they faced eventual champ São Paulo.

Bielsa would have the daunting task of leading a side to the World Cup after two misses. The first step towards this goal would not be easy as he would debut against none other than Argentina at the Monumental in Buenos Aires on October 13th.
