The biggest festival Phohela Boishakh, 1415 (The first day of Bengali year) observed in a befitting manner in whole Bangladesh where people from all walks participated while they started their day by eating Panta (boiled rice with water) and hellish and pass the whole day through a lot of cultural programs.
Pohela Boishakh is also known as the friendship among the all religious people where everybody keeps themselves beyond any kind of discrimination. It makes a great impact from child to old people to celebrate it.
The main programs of Pohela Boishakh observed in Ramna (largest park of BD) with a lot of security including police and rapid action battalion helping by some close circuit camera while there was a huge bomb blast by JMB 7 years ago. There was a big line of people under the hot sunshine from Shahbag to Ostachol to enter into the park. But there was no revulsion of standing in the line for a long time. Thousands of people were present there.
There were some other programs in Chayanot, Fine Arts Institute, Arts faculty of Dhaka University, Public Library centre, TSC, Robindro Sorobor and some other places in capital Dhaka where many cultural organizations performed to give entertainment to the public. The main spots of Dhaka city were blocked for any kind of vehicle so that people could walk easily.
There were thousands of Boishakhi fair organized in all over the country where you will get various kinds of toys, foods including sweets and fruits, and circus. Especially children are most attracted to these fair. Women wear white sari including flower into their hair and men wear Punjabi in this occasion.
Pohela Boishakh was first introduced By the Emperor Akbar in sixteenth century. In that period people of Indian sub continent used Arabic year which is Lunar. But people faced some problem with their business work for this lunar counting of months. Then, Akber decided to introduce a new system. They did not leave the Arabic year but they started to count it in solar system as English year and the new system gets a new name.
