Former US President Bill Clinton continued to weigh in on the current state of the Democratic race and the Democratic Party itself. While in Montana, Bill Clinton maintained that his wife Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Hillary Clinton can still be nominated. The timing of Clinton’s address to the crowd in Montana seems to give off the indication of desperation.
Bill argued that the remaining and vital superdelegates could change to the other side and join his wife Hillary. Hillary Clinton maintained that she still holds the popular vote. However, that still remains up for debate. However, Bill Clinton has insisted that Hillary Clinton can still win the Democratic nomination and the presidential election.
He even went far enough to attack the news media for “unfairly” attacking his wife. Clinton also accused polls of not reporting Senator Clinton’s chances in the general election against presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. In short, Clinton has called this a “media cover up.” Clinton also gave the implication that the media overlooked Senator Clinton’s victories in key states such as Pennsylvania.
Clinton also added that his wife has not received the respect his wife deserves.
“She is winning the general election today and he is not, according to all the evidence,” Bill Clinton said. He adds: “And I have never seen anything like it. I have never seen a candidate treated so disrespectfully just for running.”
Bill Clinton used the Electoral College map for his argument that Hillary Clinton can win the presidency if she gets the nomination. Hillary Clinton also used Karl Rove’s Electoral College map as an example.
But, the Electoral College map is one thing. However, there are other factors at play. It is already established that the endorsements do not really mean anything to the minds of the voters. While endorsements do help a campaign and a presidency, those groups and people that endorse are no different than any of the other voters.
For example, you get endorsed by a celebrity. While it is a major endorsement, in reality, it simply means you have a dedicated voter. An endorsement from a major actress like Angelina Jolie does not mean much in the election. It would simply mean you have Angelina Jolie’s vote.
A Washington Post/ABC News poll that was released on April 16 revealed that 39 percent of Americans deemed Hillary Clinton to be honest. Amongst the Democratic voters, Hillary Clinton has been losing their trust.
The RNC has focused its attack ads on Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. Several months ago at a GOP donor event, a five-point attack plan against Obama was outlined.
Also, poll results have remained consistent. Obama has done fairly well amongst Independent voters and moderate Republicans. This gives the indication that Clinton has focused too much on the Democratic constituency. Also, those same Independents and moderate Republicans have also said that if Clinton ends up as the Democratic nominee, they may end up voting for McCain instead.
If Clinton does end up getting an upset victory and getting the Democratic nomination, depending too much on the Democratic constituency could prove to be politically fatal to her candidacy.
Recently, New York Democratic Governor David Paterson, a supporter of Clinton, said that she was showing signs of desperation.
Overall, there are many factors that have to be considered and not just the electoral map, let alone Rove’s electoral map. But, nothing is in concrete yet. Obama said that the race is not over because Clinton is still in it. In short, the Democratic nomination has yet to be solidified.
