Bingu threatens to call for early elections

President of Malawi Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika has threatened that he will call for early general elections should the opposition insist that they will not pass they 2007/2008 budget until section 65 which impowers the speaker to declare seats of Members of Parliament  vacant is invoked.

The President was speaking during a rally he addressed in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi on Saturday.

He said he had learned  with shock that the opposition want to impeach him by the use of section 65 saying he is not worried.

"I will be forced to call for early general elections.Let us see if you can win," he commented.

Research in Malawi shows that the President would win elections should they be held this year.

The research revealed that during his reign many people appreciate him  because of fertilizer subsidy which has helped farmers to produce enough for their families and for sale.

However, some lawyers have expressed doubt if the it is legal for him to call for ealy elections saying the constitution is silent.
