Politics have funnier ways. BJP and CPI(M) are known as sworn enemies in Indian Politics. But time and necessity bring them together. Such a political instance was seen in the Board formation in a village panchayat in West Bengal.
Sridam Pramanik and Arati Das, BJP members of Belghoria village panchayat in Shantipur about 70 KM from Calcutta voted CPI(M) to give control of the Board. CPI(M) had seven of the Panchayat’s 17 seats while Congress had 5, Trinomul Congress 3 and BJP 2 seats.
The BJP duo said, “Last time we supported the Congress to form the Board. But we found the previous board full of corruption. So we decided to support the CPI(M) this time, which is less corrupt than Congress.”
CPI(M) leaders of Nadia District found nothing wrong in taking the support of BJP in Board formation. District CPI(M) secretary Ashu Ghose said, “If opposition members come out and support us what can we do?.”
