Jammu, January 11 (Scoop News) -There should be a separate “Krishi Budget” (Agriculture Budget) on the pattern of “Railway Budget”. The Union Government as well as state governments should have “Krishi Budgets” as it is the only permanent solution to the problems of farmers across the country.
This was stated by Former Union MoS & BJP Kissan Morcha National General Secretary Jaisingh Rao Gaikward Patil while releasing a booklet in a press conference which contain plight of the farmers, the measures taken by the BJP run states for the welfare of farmers and main demands of the Morcha for mitigation of the suffering of farmers. He said that the salaries of government employees has gone up by 18 times during last 20 years but the support price of crops was hiked just five times in the same period. For not getting the fair price of their crops, more than two lakh farmers in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Maharashtra and other parts committed suicides under the burden of loans during the last ten years.
Patil said that the farmers in our country are the worst affected by the anti-farmer policies of the UPA and the state governments. The farming community in Jammu and Kashmir too is the victim of such policies of the NC-Congress coalition, which has not served any benefit to them. It is unfortunate that farmers in J&K do not get timely seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and water for irrigational purposes. When it is the time for a farmer to be in fields, he is forced to knock the doors of Agriculture and related departments.
Patil, who was in Jammu on his 2-day tour to attend 1-day “Kissan Sammelan”, said that the BJP-led NDA under the pro- kissan approach had set up “Kissan Commission” with an objective to fix the support price for crops by adding 50 per cent of the gain into the amount spent by the farmer but unfortunately its recommendations have not been implemented by the UPA. Appreciating the BJP run state governments for taking pro-kissan decisions, Patil said that Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh governments are provinding loans to farmers on just one per cent interest. Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh governments are giving bonus on wheat and rice crops. The Government of Karnataka has passed a separate “Krishi Budget”. The Chattisgarh has the best procurement facilities. Round the clock electricity is supplied to farmers in Himachal, Gujrat and Chattisgarh state.
Asking the J&K government to learn from the BJP run governments and take decisions for the benefits of farmers, Patil said that report of Swaminathan Commission should be implemented in the state, there should be adequate number of procurement centres in Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu. More bore wells be dugged. Water in Ranbir canal should be released every year in the mid of March. Ensure fair price for Basmati rice. In case of natural calamities, the farmers should be compensated according to the market price of the crops damaged.
Patil said that the BJP Kissan Morcha has decided to observe January 21 as “Kissan Bachao Divas” under which protests dharnas wil be organised at all the district headquarters in order to highlight the problems of the farmers.
BJP Kissan Morcha State President Karan Singh and Morcha National executive Member S. Charanjit Singh Khalsa were also present in the pres conference.
