BJP is back to Hindutva in its latest National Executive

Spurred by its recent success in the assembly election in Karnataka and having installed the first ever BJP rule in a southern state, that too which had been a traditional stronghold of Congress, BJP is back to its original agenda, the Hindutva.

The BJP delegates were enthusiastic in the National executive meeting of the party that was held in New Delhi, immediately after their spectacular electoral victory in Karnataka. On the first day of the National executive meeting of the BJP, the party was moving back towards its Hindutva agenda by raising its contentious demands such as the scrapping of the Article 370 (Special provision for Kashmir) and implementation of the uniform civil code.

The BJP president, Mr.Rajnath Singh also came up with his own version of secularism.

According to Article 370, a special status has been conferred to the State of Jammu and Kashmir, excluding it from the purview of most of the acts that are applicable and in force in other states of India.

As far as uniform civil code is concerned, it negates the idea and practice of separate personal laws like Hindu law for the people who are the followers of the Hinduism, Muslim Law for the muslim people who follow the different schools of Islam and Special marriage Act for Christians and others who do not fall within the ambit of Hindu law and Muslim Law.

But though BJP is craving for the implementation of the common and uniform civil code, one should not forget that basic structure of the Indian constitution remains ‘Social, Secular, Democratic and Sovereign Republic’

Therefore, the question of introduction of a common and uniform civil code is highly a controversial and debatable one.
