BJP MLA reviews arrangements for Swine Flu patients in GMC

Jammu, February 21, (Scoop News)- To review the provisions made by Government Medical College Jammu for the treatment of Swine Flu (H1N1) patients, BJP MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) along with the Principal, senior doctors, Staff of GMC and others toured the hospital in the context. DC Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu (IAS), Director Health Services Dr Pathania, Principal GMC Dr Ghanshyam Dev, Medical Superintendent Dr Rattan Pal, Dy. Medical Supdt. Dr Wasiq Rasul also accompanied the MLA during his visit.
In a press statement issued, Sat Sharma (CA) said that different Admission Centers and isolation wards have been created by the hospital authorities at Col. RN Chopra Nursing Home, adjacent to GMC’s emergency building where the patients suspecting of H1N1 are being kept and treated.

MLA Jammu-West was informed by the Principal GMC that the OPD for such patients have been started at the general OPDs, on which the authorities were directed to segregate the OPD of Swine Flu from the general OPD and to be shifted to the separate area. MLA Jammu West also desired to utilize the services of Sub-District Hospitals in Jammu and to start the OPDs at Sarwal and Gandhi Nagar Hospitals.

MLA Jammu-West showed his concern regarding the availability of vaccination and Tami-Flu for the patients, necessary equipments like ventilators and preparedeness of the Hospital Authorities for N-95 Masks and vaccinations for the staff involved in handling the cases of Swine-Flu. He was informed that the authorities have approached the Centre govt. for this and the availability of all the necessary material shall be putforth at the earliest. With respect to the ventilators the MLA requested the Director Health Services to provide atleast two ventilators to the GMC authorities to strengthen the pool of the equipment for treating the serious patients of this flu.

MLA Jammu-West also appealed to the Dy. Commissioner Jammu for the suspension of morning assemblies in the Schools for the avoidance of spreading of the flu amongst the students as has been done in other districts of the state. He also appealed to the District administration for giving wide coverage through banners and hoardings mentioning the designated centres of OPDs and for issuing Medical advisories to the people to tackle this problem.
