Jammu, September 21 (Scoop News)-The significance of the scheduled BJP’s “Refugee Adkhikkar Yatra” can be judged from the fact that about half a dozen national leaders will join it alongwith State President Jugal Kishore Sharma, State Prahbari Avinash Rai Khanna, Legislative Party leader Ashok Khajuria, party MLAs Sham Choudhary and Sukhnandan Kumar. Moreover, BJP state senior leaders, state office bearers and morcha presidents will accompany the yatra for complete five days.
This was disclosed by BJP State General Secretary Rajiv Jasrotia while addressing media persons at Jammu on Saturday alongwith State Press Secretary Balbir Ram Rattan, Publicity Secretary Aseem Gupta and Prahari Refugee Cells Pt. Ashok Kumar Khajuria.
Rajiv Jasrotia, who is overall Incharge of the yatra, said that the 5-day yatra will commence on October 2 from village Keerian Gandyal in Kathua district and after passing through about 50 villages housing the population of refugees and covering three districts of Jammu Province namely Kathua, Samba, R.S. Pura it will culminate at Jammu on October 06, 2013, when a massive rally will be organized outside Press Club.
Briefing about the motive to organize “Refugee Adkhikaar Yatra”, Jasrotia said that Jammu province has 10-12 lakh refugees who are living in almost border areas on Kathua to Poonch stretch. They include refugees from West Pakistan, PoJK Refugees and those of 1965 and 1971. Refugees from West Pakistan have been deprived of citizenship right, right to education, right to employment in government sector and right to vote in state assembly.
Similarly, refugees from PoJK have not been adequately compensated for the properties left in Pakistan occupied areas of Jammu & Kashmir, 24 seats which have been kept reserved for PoJK refugees have not been filled, ownership rights of evacuee properties in their possession have not been granted. Refugees of 1965 and 1971 have also not been compensated for their properties. All these categories of refugees have been agitating for decades for their genuine rights but unfortunately no one has cared to work towards delivering justice to them.
Jasrotia said that the BJP has been continously raising the voice of these refugees and even taken up their issues in the parliament as well as state assembly from time to time. Our party has even adopted a resolution seeking grant of rights to them. The successive state governments in J&K after 1947 only provided lip service to these refugees but did not take any constitutional initiative to recommend to the union government for grant of rights.
Appealing the refugees to join BJP’s yatra, Jasrotia expressed hope that it will succeed in exerting pressure on the government to wake up and be serious in granting rights to refugees of what they have been deprived for decades.
