BJP/NDA SUCCESSFULLY PUTS OUT THE CONGRESS INSPIRED AND ARNAB MANUFACTURED LALITGATE FIRE.
Readers must have wasted much time watching Arnab Goswami’s theatrics presenting his Lalitgate ‘exposes’ in the TimesNow TV. Despite TimesNow claims, most independent and informed viewers have turned off to avoid receiving the sterile stuff being dished out as news especially when many new Congress faces now swarm the TimesNow TV shows. The rest of the viewers fret disgusted and unwilling to express at how Arnab drilled TimesNow reporters stage the same shows in street corners harassing and ridiculing characters who are not even remotely connected to the Laligate saga and Congress hangers on recite Arnab’s anti-BJP mantras in the context of Kusuma or Vasundara Raje controversies. The reporters can be seen canvassing opposition politicians to support Arnab’s demand that Sushma, Raje, Munde and others be dismissed immediately and Modi speaks out on Laligate.
The TimesNow/Arnab would not spare the RSS/BJP run BMC members and officials sweating it out undertaking urgent flood relief works while Arnab from his TV studios launches his mercilessly tirades on them for not pre-empting the calamitous flood conditions that Arnab claimed would persist for more days. Arnab accuses the BMC for not investing available funds in more pumps and sufficient to drain out the flood waters Arnab expected to stagnate in the Bombay streets for days. Arnab in fact wasted his breath on accusing BMC politicians and officials running Bombay not realizing that its TV broadcasts showed Bombay streets clean and free of flood waters later on in that day. BMC was efficient enough to achieve this. But Arnab posed why BMC held on to the funds ; was it to allow BJP/RSS officials to line up their pockets? Such a poser might have been more appropriate in a UPA set up but Arnab who is obligated to wash away or dilute Congress’ scams from public view.
was disappointed. Arnab sensationalizing Minister Munde approving the purchase of items including chikkis for children without tenders some of which were found contaminated with clay to emotionally for Arnab to stir up anger against Munde began calling it as “Cheating the children”. Bombay residents who are familiar with being supplied with substandard items over the years supposedly purchased after tenders had no TimesNow editorials asserting that there were none awaiting to cheat leave alone “children”. Suppliers who lost out on account of Minister Mundey taking corrective action against them had the ready support of Congress gangs and the likes of TimesNow reporters shying away from reporting on pre-Munde time abuses. Munde as a newcomer to the (UPA) style of politics had to work with that class of entrenched suppliers with proven anti-pathies to BJP. Indian expatriate viewers familiar with Fox News Sean Hamilty would rate Arnab of TimesNow on a scale not any better than Sean. TimesNow thus calling young Minister Munde a scamster without hesitation had to be expected. Young Munde wanted to change the culture or practice of suppliers running the purchase function and earn demeaning name calling by the TimesNow class journalists. Not calling tenders is procedural infraction that was necessary but to call that “Cheating the children is outrageous. That is however Arnab’s style of emotionally appealing to viewers to act on Munde when he perceives that he was not receiving the level of public support to match the level of voice decibels he expended on the Munde issue. In fact Munde received applause from the generality of the people. The expectation of Arnab/TimesNow to create opinion in favour of the Congress just didn’t materialize. An unapologetic Arnab almost vacates Munde scene fast.
Viewers are familiar with an Arnab during his presentations waving sheathes of paper to impress viewers even over the Parliamentarians ‘food subsidiary’ issue. Arnab displaying flashy leaflets showing the prices of iems served also showing the extraordinary subsidy element for the subsidized treats was expected to evoke public uproar. Arnab missed the target badly. The subsidy is a Congress legacy that Arnab blames the BJP for not swiftly ending the ‘food subsidy’ wasted on the VVIP politicians. Both the BJP and the Congress have now mutually agreed to end the subsidized food for politicians as soon as possible. Viewers are familiar enough that Arnab’s style of pointing his accusing finger which most times pointed in the wrong direction. UPA would not have in any case gained much from diverting the debate in favour of the UPA. However the possible Arnab/UPA Congress secret link explains the strange Arnab/TimesNow behavior of picking for debate issues weighted in favour of the Congress/UPA.
The link also explains the reasons for Arnab overlooking the blatant UPA scams that surfaced behind every piece of furniture in the UPA offices for ever a decade. Arnab’s predicament was that under BJP rule he had problems finding comparable readymade misdemeanors during the one year of NDA rule . This requires the Arnab/TimesNow team to struggle to find suitable labels to describe NDA misdemeanors as scams. They are not that straight forward; hence the Arnab’s titles change from Sushma gate’ to ‘Yasundra Raje gate’ ‘Dushyangate’ and now remains as Lalitgate’. Arnab/TimesNow labels do not conclusively describe NDA’s misdemeanors as scams leaving viewers only with empty verbiage. The outbursts of Arnab and his teams in TimesNow TV shows do outperform other media outlets in producing more noise than substance during debates.
Though Arnab used TimesNow media to smear the BJP rule with a Sushma story it is dis-similar to most of the UPA era scams and pitifully are only labeled vaguely as an ‘impropriety’ that has no regulatory provisions that Sushma breached and had to be immediately dismissed. Sushma may have overlooked that her office as Foreign Minister does not allow any space for her to assist a Lalit Modi on grounds of her personal friendship, not when Lalit carried a tainted record. Sushma unlike Vasundara Raje scrupulously avoided holding out her official position when seeking to sort out Lalit’s travel document problems with the UK Immigration. But Arnab/TimesNow was urging the PM Modi to dismiss Sushma on the grounds of propriety, a novel and untested basis to act against a minister. To convert Sushma’s act into a corruption like scam Arnab/TimesNow had to argue that Sushma had acted to assist Lalit more as a quid pro quo in exchange for some benefits she received. The benefits that Arnab lists were that Sushma’s husband and daughter worked as Lalit’s lawyers for several years and unrelated to Sushma’s call to the UK Immigration to assist Lalit on a trivial travel document matter. No informed viewer or even a court would buy Arnab’s conflict of interest thesis and expect the BJP to dismiss Sushma for mis-using her office to assist Lalit over his travel document problems. Certainly Arnab’s Congress link again explains the vehemence with which Arnab acted during debates and presentations on the Sushma affair.
Over the Vasundara Raje’s misdemeanor Arnab begins his tirade against Raje following Lalit’s public relations office in Bombay releasing a bundle of papers Lalit sent to the UK authorities seeking approval for his stay in England sometime in 2013. In that bundled were Raje’s recommendations supporting Lalit’s application that carried Raje’s comments on Lalit being subject to harassment in India justifying her support for Lalit’s application for stay in England. Why Lalit released these documents at this stage remains a mistery. Arnab still only chose to selectively quote paragraphs from her memorandum referring to India to accuse Raje of being un-patriotic. At the end of each news break Times Now/Arnab habitually demands the dismissal of everyone who was debated on.
For Arnab to add a conflict of interest dimension in Raje’case also, TimesNow teams began to willfully question how Lalit’s shareholding in hotel owned by Lalit ended up as Raje’s, years back before Raje’s 2013 memoranda supporting Lalit’s stay in the UK. After another newsbreak Arnab/TimesNow began to query Dushyant holding some shares in that hotel. Though Dushyant acquiring the shares is unlike the manner in which Robert amassed his assets Arnab discovers a similarity with a UPA/Congress Robert Vadra accumulating assets. However sharper analysts are unlikely to use the same yardsticks to evaluate Dushyant’s and Vadra’s methods of accumulating assets.
To categorically point a causal link between two unrelated events that occurred years apart (acquiring shares and making recommend for Lalit’s stay in UK) is more than mischievous and meant to willfully hurt damage the reputation of prominent families. The share transactions occurred long before Raje recommended Lalit’s stay in the UK application. Responsible media would have to scrupulously observe the limits when reporting or arguing share related issues and more so when attempting to establish a conflict of interest position. Perhaps it is time India has in place legislation restraining media and others from making cruel assertions hurting others supposedly acting under the guise of press freedom. Prescribing the cancelling of the license of media organizations that willfully breach the underlying principles of good reporting is reasonable.
On reporting both Sushma’s and Raje’s cases the facts presented/reported to support a conflict of interest charge by Arnab/TimesNOW are basically flawed that the BJP leaders have in fact acted correctly not acting hastily against the two ministers concerned. BJP leaders have to act with care unlike media outfits. They have higher obligations when they manage the country and its people. Arbab/Timesnow appear to be overstepping limits or standards on reporting deserve censure. The TV screens flashing lines demanding dismissals including that the PM to speak out on the Laligate issues deserves sanction. Unchecked ArnabTimesNow may demand the PM dismissal. The Arnab/TimesNow call on PM Modi to speak out does not become any more desirable even when all the opposition parties join up. TimesNow TV show its street journalist canvassing politicians (Delhi CM Kerjival) to join up on the dismissal demand. How could a media organisation that is inclined to conduct itself in the manner discussed above claim neutral, objective ndependent status in reporting? Whither the TimesNow media as a a Congress spokesperson?
