Prominent party activists of BJP met here under leadership
of district president Rajesh Gupta to discuss party’s scheduled district level
protests to be organized from February 21 against decision taken by government for
holding Panchayat and Civic Body Elections without implementing 73rd and 74th
amendments. Meeting was chaired by State
President Shamsher Singh Manhas.
Manhas said that recent decision of NC-Congress coalition
government to hold election of Panchayats and local bodies in state without
implementing 73rd and 74th amendments of Indian Constitution will prove to be a
futile exercise as it will not achieve real objective of empowerment to grass-root
level. He said that these amendments have been implemented in true spirit in
every state of country except Jammu & Kashmir.
BJP has been demanding for their implementation and it is in
this context that party has decided to hold protests in all districts on
February 21 to mount pressure on government. He said that it is really
unfortunate that Congress, which is a coalition partner in State, do not come
openly in favour of implementing amendments.
District President Rajesh Gupta, while addressing meeting,
said that the district Unit office bearers have been devoting their maximum
time these days to reach masses and ensure their participation in scheduled
protest.
