It was not long ago that United States President-elect Barack Obama picked Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton of New York to be the next US Secretary of State. If Clinton does accept, provided by Senate confirmation she will take the position once Obama takes office on January 20, 2009. Before the end of the Democratic primary, Clinton was the final opponent that stood in Obama’s way. It was a long and hard fought battle between Clinton and Obama.
However, it was Obama that came up on top. However, there were stipulations in regards to picking Hillary Clinton. Once such stipulation was that a list of donors to the Clinton Foundation has to be disclosed. So far, the list has been released out to the public. There are some interesting names present on the list of donors.
Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft has been revealed as one of the donors to the Clinton Global Initiative. Stephen Bing, Haim Saban, and Robert L. Johnson are also notable major financial backers. Saban is known for producing the American versions of the Power Rangers franchise. Shows such as “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” “Big Bad Beetleborgs,” “VR Troopers,” “Power Rangers Neo,” and “Power Rangers Turbo,” all came from Haim Saban. However, these names are only the tip of the iceberg of donors.
World governments have also donated to the Clinton Foundation. However, the names were only disclosed. The precise donation amounts are unknown.
Also listed were: Steven Spielberg, Paul Newman, and Chevy Chase.
A good number of businesses have also donated to the Clinton Foundation. However, there is one name that could spell a possible conflict of interest: Blackwater. The Blackwater Training Center has been listed as a donor to the Clinton Foundation.
Right now, there is the strong possibility that Blackwater could lose its license to operate in Iraq. This stems from the controversy back in 2007 during the fatal crossfire on September 16. There is the possibility that Blackwater could get kicked out. However, it would prove to be difficult if and when Blackwater loses its license.
It will be up to Obama and Clinton to deal with the security situation of Iraq. So far, a bunch of names have popped up on the donor list. Many names on the list are recognizable. However, there are names that bring notoriety as well. One such name would be the private security firm known as Blackwater.
