Blagojevich Calls Impeachment Hearing A ‘Sham’

So far, things continue to become worse for Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Sadly for him, it looks like it is virtually impossible to get a break. So far, the appointment of former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris temporarily took the heat off of Blagojevich. However, Burris was quickly appointed to the US Senate to fill the Senate seat vacated by now United States President Barack Obama.

Blagojevich is charged of trying to sell Obama’s vacated Senate seat. Overall, it has been extremely hard for Blagojevich. But it has not stopped Blagojevich from fighting. So far he looks to continue fighting tooth and nail in the impeachment hearings. In regards to defense, Blagojevich is virtually defenseless.

He went ahead and called the impeachment trial a “sham.” That would be the equivalent to a kangaroo court.

What the Senate and the House and Legislature is trying to do is to thwart the will of the people and remove a governor elected twice by the people without a fair hearing,” Blagojevich had said.

The Illinois House had already impeached Blagojevich. Now, it is the Illinois Senate’s turn.

“The impeachment trial is a sham,” he said in his words.

Several days ago, Blagojevich’s lawyer Edward Genson had dropped out of the impeachment proceedings. That is another surefire sign that things are not really going Blagojevich’s way.

Financially, it should be causing pain for Blagojevich. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan had moved to appeal to the Illinois State Supreme Court to have Blagojevich stripped of his powers. The appeal was denied. However, Madigan did deny the request for the state to pay for Blagojevich’s defense.

The odds continue to be stacked against Blagojevich.
