Undoubtedly, he is one of the most charming characters in Indian mythology. The underlying theme of the book is one of the human sufferings, its acceptance and endurance. Lord Krishna, the principal protagonist, as the writer discovers, is not the Almightybut a common manlike us, who bonds with the mortals.
There is just one narrator – the God – who lives a man’s life. The book opens with Krishna lying on his death-bed beneath the peepal tree beside Trivenisangam river, where he relives his entire life-span after witnessing the destruction of the Yadava dynasty.
What is interesting and will keep the readers engaged is the unveiling of Krishna’s involvement with Rukmini, Satyabhama, Radha and Draupadi.
The stand alone sub-plots, each depicting a period in relationship, are flawlessly interwoven and lead the reader to the main plot – Krishna awaiting his death. The language of the book is simple and you needn’t turn to the dictionary continually.
