Boulder Crest Retreat Announces 5th Annual Brave American Classic Race for Military & Veteran Wellness

Boulder Crest Retreat announces the 5th Annual Brave American Classic Race for Military & Veteran Wellness. The race will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, starting at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Church, located at 405 Frederick Ave in Sewickley, PA. The race will include a 5K run, 10K run, and a 1-mile walk. Proceeds from the annual event support the therapeutic programs at the Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness.

“This is the best run in the Pittsburgh area because the funds that it raises helps those who have helped defend our country and freedoms,” explains Ken Falke, chairman and founder of the Boulder Crest Retreat. “It’s a great annual event that we look forward to. Not only does it do a lot of good for the community, but it’s a fun time as well.”

The race will include awards, medals, and prizes, as well as food and drinks afterward. Participants will receive custom tote bags and race shirts, as well as other goodies from vendors. Awards will be given to the overall top three male and female finishers, as well as in seven age categories. There will be awards for both the 5K and 10K. The registration fee is $15 for the 1-mile walk, $25 for the 5K run, and $35 for the 10K run.

The annual run was founded by Robbie Veltre when he was a sophomore in high school. A passionate runner, he chose to make his high school project a run that would create a positive impact. His father is also on the board of Boulder Crest Retreat. The run offers three options, so there is something for everyone, allowing more people in the community to get involved in helping to support the mission.

“It was supposed to be a one time event, but four years, four events, and $150,000 later and we’re at it again! We’ve learned a ton since the first one,” says Robbie Veltre. “It gets bigger and more fun every year. I volunteered for a week at Boulder Crest last summer and got to see what happens there. What I saw makes us want to keep doing this to help fund the programs.”

“This is going to be a great day to lace up those shoes and take a walk or run,” adds Falke. “People will be coming together to support our veterans and give them the help that they need to be able to transition back into civilian life. It’s a great event for a great cause and we are excited to be a part of it.”
