A 13-YEAR-old Perth boy serving eight months’ juvenile detention for his role in a "sadistic" group attack on a schoolmate has been released on appeal.
The teenager was one of five who allegedly tortured a 12-year-old boy over six hours after taking him to a bush site on June 27 this year.
In October, Perth Children’s Court president Denis Reynolds sentenced the teenager to eight months’ detention after he pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding, deprivation of liberty and unlawful assault.
At the time, Mr Reynolds said the boy had inflicted "prolonged torture" on the victim and his behaviour was "extremely callous and sadistic".
The teenager had helped hang the victim by the legs on a tree stump, and then hit him with a branch after letting him down.
