When I first saw the trailer for the movie Breach, I had my doubts. I thought it was going to be another bad attempt at a spy movie. This however, was not the case. The movie is based on the true story of one of the largest breaches of security in U.S. history. Chris Cooper (The Patriot, October Sky) plays Robert Hanssen, the man who was convicted of selling secrets and other information to the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Cooper is one of the best all-around actors in the business and plays his part to perfection. Eric Oneill, the young FBI agent who helped to bring down Hanssen, is played by Ryan Phillippe (Flags of Our Fathers, Crash). Phillippe is convicing in his role as a man who wants to make agent and his given the assignment of "spying" on Hanssen. Laura Linney (Truman Show, Man of the Year) and Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit) also give good performances. I did find myself waiting for Haysbert to ask "are you in good hands?" and "that’s All State’s stand." The movie is rated PG-13, and there is not any overly objectionable material. Directed by Billy Ray (Shattered Glass, Harts War), Breach is the story of what happens when one man decides to "Benedict Arnold" the U.S.
