Flood victims of Brep village suffering fro starvation.
CHITRAL: Affected people of Flood of July, 2005 are suffering numerous problems due to lack of civic facilities. As a heavy flood ruined Brep village in July 2005 and these people were dislocated who later on accommodated at Kotan Lusht area. Unfortunately these affected people once again in sever grip of whirlpool of numerous problems. All irrigation channels, pipeline of water supply and streams had been damaged by tremendous flood at that time but the rehabilitation work is still pending. People of the area are suffering badly from acute shortage of potable drinking and irrigation water. The women folk are compelled to carry water in pitches on their head from very far flung areas. Especially residents of Istach, khroozg and gizg villages are suffering from starvation. Majority of these people were peasants and farmers but due to no water their standing crops were badly withered and dried. Talking to this scribe Mikhon Wali Khan a former councilor of Union Council Yarkhun told that water management department had assured for releasing of rupees 18000 for water supply but nothing was released till now.
He said that our standing crops and orchards were dried and withered due to no water. He said that there is acute shortage of edible things and it is looking that these people will be suffered from starvation after one month because they have stock for one month only. He said that if these people sere not compensated by arranging of water supply and restoring of irrigation channels they will be compelled for transmigration. This area was famous for apple and in General Ziaul Haq regime Army helicopter was using 3 sorties who shifting apples from Brep to Islamabad. But unfortunately the Apple orchard also affected by some disease but agriculture department did nothing for its remedy as a result apple production also badly affected by this mysterious disease. Former councilor and prominent social worker of the area Mirkhon Wali Khan have appeal to President, Prime Minster of Pakistan as well as Provincial Chief for compensation these affected people and granting discretionary fund for rehabilitation as well as for restoring of irrigation channels and water supply pipelines. So as to save them from starvation.
