However, all the 136 passengers and 16 crew memebrs aboard the flight had a providential escape and cameout from the Boeing 777 emegency chutes.Fortunrately, the flight was also only half-full. six passengers who had suffered minor injuries were taken to the hospital.
The incident took place just before the British Primeminister, Mr.Gordon Brown was to leave for China and India. His flight took off after a delay.
A taxi-driver, Mr.John Rowland, who was close to the Airport at the time of the crashlanding said that the Plane’s wheel collapsed and doors flung open. He further added that the Plane had narrowly missed the roof of his cab.
One of the passengers, Mr.Fernando Pardo, said that there was absolutely no sign of any trouble until the Plane touched the ground. It was so sudden that he could not and probably most of the passengers could not realise what exactly had happened. there was, however, there was no panic and this has conisiderably helped in the evacuation of the passengers.
Mr.willie was,h Chief Excutiv of the British Airways, said that he was very proud of the Pilot and crew Memebrs. But for the presence of mind the Pilot had applied, there would have been a major castastorphe. The cabin crew had done a professional job in evacuating passengers safely
There has been a disruption of flights from the Heathrow Airport and consequently British Airways flights have either been diverted or delayed or cancelled. The Heathrow Airport operates at 98% of its capacity and this incident would bring it down nearly by half. As a result disruption of services is inevitable until the runway is restored.
British Airways has setup a helpline for providing information and freiends and relatives of the passengers can contact 0800 3894193.
