The police and army will be provided light-weight bullet proof jackets, head-gear and sniper suits ahead of the elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Army’s northern command headquarter looking after the operational area of Jammu and Kashmir have issued tenders to purchase bullet proof jackets, head-gear and hand held thermal imagers to provide its troops body security apparatus during forthcoming assembly elections," defence sources said .
"These would be replacing old type of heavy weight bullet proof jackets in a phased manner," they said.
Handheld radio sets with location indicator would also be procured by the army for its use in norther command sector in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the assembly polls, they said.
The police has also floated fresh tenders asking vendors to supply over 5000 bullet proof jackets and head-gear for their use in the forthcoming elections in the state, sources said.
