Bus Etiquette seems to slip through the minds of some people in our society these days, when what the right and respectable thing to do is often ignored.
I was on a bus home after Mother’s Day shopping, only to find the back of it occupied by four "feral" young adults.
They were loud. That is a simple bus rule no-no, but it is the first to acknowledge when someone irritates you.
Then they were swearing and then decided to increase the noise not with a loud iPod, but an iPod with a speaker – it filled the bus throughout.
And naturally, the music just had to be offensive with highly unacceptable sexualised lyrics.
I felt enraged. And I am certain that my co-passengers felt exactly what I felt.
So what stopped me from standing up and asking them to turn it down, to respect the other passengers?
Even though I did not even look behind to see their faces, through the sounds they created with their despicable music, cackling laughter and deliberate swearing – they were the type that would verbally abuse you in return, get off the same stop as you and bash you up.
So, I devoured the journey in my rage, and when they finally got off. The girl of the group yelled to the bus driver,
"Have a good night!".
Then her accomplice,
"Thanks for the free poster!"
It caught my attention and I looked at what he had in his hands, and it was an alcohol advertisement he had peeled off the wall on the inside of the bus.
Next time this bus driver encounters these "dudes", I hope to God he refuses them a ride.
They can f*&#en walk.
