President George Bush will complete his eight-year US presidency on Tuesday after he turns over the world’s most powerful and stressful job to his successor, President-elect Barack Obama. Then he heads back home south to Texas where he spent the best years of his life.
President Bush is now 62 years old and certainly looks much older than when he first moved to the white house eight years ago. It must have been due to some controversial decisions he made that did not come up well when they were implemented. These include the Iraq war where his administration insisted that Iraq had a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction when there was none, the Guantanamo prison torture issue which continues to haunt his last few days in office, the Afghanistan war where thousands of American soldiers are risking their lives, among others.
In AFP report published by the Australian, ‘The presidency from which there can be no true vacation, and advancing age have to take a visible toll on Bush, who was Texas governor when he first ran for the White House in 2000.
His hair is thinner and greyer. His face lined with worry. He gave up golf in late 2003, out of respect, he said, for the relatives of Iraq war dead. Once an avid jogger, Bush turned to mountain biking when his knees no longer could take the running’.
‘I know I gave ii my all for eight years. And I did not sell my soul for the sake of popularity. And so, when I get back home and look in the mirror, I will be proud of what I see.
Bush who is a born-again Christian will retire in his native Texas in a sprawling house in one of the wealthiest areas in Dallas. He will most probably go back and spend more time to his ranch in Crawford
President Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 6, 1946. He is the son of former president George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush. He was raised in Midland and Houston, Texas. He has a Bachelor’s degree in History from the Yale University and an MBA from Harvard University. He is married to Laura Bush and they have two daughters, Jenna and Barbara
