Business School,JU organizes Special Interactive Session

Jammu, February 08 (Scoop News) –    The Business School, University of Jammu today organized Special Interactive Session under the “Leadership Connect Lecture Series”  by  Pravesh Vaid, Consultant CII AVANTHA Centre for competitiveness, a Human Resource Trainer, Academic Facilitator and Social Development Activist with corporate experience of over 30 years in Human Resource Management. A certified Auditor under International Social Accountability Standard SA 8000,  Pravesh Vaid is also involved in ambitious CII Indo-Japan initiative of creating visionary leaders for SME manufacturing through VLFM programme.

 

He initiated the lecture with an impressive audio-visual presentation describing ‘who is a leader’. Speaking on the occasion,  Vaid said that leadership is a trait which can be inculcated and enriched with experience. Leaders, according to him, are born with few inherent traits but it is the training that makes a difference. He emphasized that everybody has a leader in him but one needs to recognize it. He further elaborated that the functional heads are the formal leaders in companies and the key to their success in such leadership role resides in understanding their subordinates effectively.

 

 Vaid differentiated between leadership and management with a famous quote by Peter Drucker “Management is doing things right, Leadership is doing the right things”. He shared his views on how leaders are different from managers and emphasized that the students should try to be the visionary leaders rather than just becoming the managers. He stressed that executives exhibit leadership behaviours of different types and forms; the model however must fit into the situational requirements. He emphasized that self introspection helps to explore and understand leader concerns better.

Speaking on the relevance of contemporary approach for leadership,  Vaid discussed the Porter’s Five Forces and SEPTEM Forces needed for strategic development of leadership. He talked about the relevance of ‘Jump in the Fish Bowl Principle’ in present competitive world so as to understand the bottom of pyramid philosophy of C. K. Prahalad.

 Pravesh Vaid urged the students to retain their basic values such as honesty, dedication, competence and integrity. He remarked that these are crucial to climb up the corporate ladder.

The event was organized in collaboration with Confederation of Indian industries, Jammu Chapter. Earlier, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Students Placement, University of Jammu and Director, The Business School formally welcomed the guest speaker and said that the leadership is an experience that should essentially culminate in connection with the mindsets that bring in meaningful results. She emphasized that leaders can be developed with effective training just like moulding the earthen pots. She shared with the audience that the Leadership Connect lecture  Series has been launched in the year 2010 as one of the initiatives of TBS at university of Jammu, with an objective of providing industry-academia interface for the budding managers. The session was co-ordinated by Dr. Sameer Gupta. Prof. B. C. Sharma, Coordinator MBA Programme presided over the session. The lecture was attended by the students, research scholars and the faculty members of The Business School, besides guests from the industry including representatives of CII,Jammu.
