CAA is trying of its best to serve the people of Chitral Airport Manager.
CHITRAL: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chitral is trying of its best to serve the nation and provide all facilities to the people of Chitral as available these views were expressed by Iltaf Hussain Airport Manager of Chitral Airport. He said that Chitral Airport serves as life line for people of Chitral in winter season. He said that the airport premises is containing on some 74 Acres of land while its runway having the length of 5800 feet with 100 feet of width. During the recent heavy snowfall run way and apron area of Chitral airport was fully covered by snow which was recorded some 35 inches. The airport management having only one tractor and 30 man power (some staff are working on daily wages basis) to remove the snow from runway area so as to enable it for PIA schedule flights operation.
He said that after receiving heavy snow at Runway we timely contact the district government of Chitral but unfortunately they had no such machineries to be utilized for snow removing from Runway of Chitral airport. There were only 3 wheel dozers in unserviceable condition with district government. Hence they have only one tractor with no man power to support airport management. Hence we requested commandant Chitral Scouts who deputed one tractor with 15 soldiers for clearance of run way as well as 10 border police personals were also detailed by local administration for this purpose. He said after heavy and continues snowfall for more than 48 hours Chitral airport remained blocked by snowfall for 7 days from 8th to 14th January. It was not only difficult but impossible for CAA to remove thousands tones snow from 73 Acre of land including run way, fair weather strip, undershoot area, over-run area in next 20 days but CAA staff worked day and night and success to clear run way area for PIA flights.
He said that we approached a private contractor Madni Marble who donated one dozer only on fuel by CAA who worked and cleaned run way area available for operation. Hence mechanical force (wheel dozer etc) is required for Chitral airport to overcome such circumstances in future. As well as CAA staff working at Chitral airport should to grant hardship allowances as allowing in Gilgit and Skurdu airports etc.
The Airport manager expressed great concern over by lamenting services of CAA by some politicians in their press conference and advised to first analyze grievances and limitations of CAA then they should to spoke against CAA.
