Jammu,February 08 (Scoop News) –    The State Cabinet which met here today under the Chairmanship  of  Chief  Minister Omar Abdullah approved up gradation of pay scales of Principal Government Medical College Srinagar and Principal Government Medical college Jammu from the existing PB-4 (37400-67000+ G.P Rs. 10,000) to PB-4(37400-67000+G.P Rs. 12,000) from 01-07-2009.

The Cabinet also approved enhancement of Salary of Councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh-Kargil from Rs. 10,000 to 30,000 per month prospectively.

The Cabinet also approved conduct of Elections to the Municipal Corporations/Municipal Councils/Committees.

Meanwhile Minister for Tourism & Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Chief Executive Councilor Ladakh Hill Development Council(LAHDC), Rigzin Spalbar thanked the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs A.R. Rather for conceding long pending demand of Councillors of Ladakh and Kargil with regard to increase in their salary from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 30,000 per month prospectively. This has been done with the kind intervention of Chief Minister, Mr Omar Abdullah and Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, A.R. Rather.

Elaborating the above demand and its fulfillment by the State Government in view of largeness of the Councillor constituencies of LAHDC, Leh and Kargil. Jora stated that the paltry amount of Rs. 10,000 as salary per month was too meager to do justice with the job and responsibilities entrusted to a Councilors. In view of increased salary to Councillor, there is a positive feeling amongst them to do justice with the job and they neither will nor effectively redress grievances of people of area. This would also strengthen democratic institution like Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh and Kargil.
