Kosovo has declared itself independant from the erstwhile Serbia and still Serbia has been opposing it and it has not reconciled to the creation of a separate state called Kosovo. Both US and the UK are about to recognise it along with other European countries.
But Srilanka is quite concerned and is apprehensive of the developments in Kosovo, because it has got its own problems with the Tamil Eelam with its militant outfit LTTE.
But as an impartial observer of political affairs, it is our duty to compare both Kosovo and Tamil Eelam. While Kosovo has a popolation of roughly about 2 millions of which more than 80 % are albanians and some serbians who still have their loyalty towards Serbia and of course opposing the independance of Serbia.Kosovo has not had a well defined terrotory. The Government that has been formed is only an interim government. Whereas, the Tamil Ealam has a well defined territory and the Tamil being the prominent language and the Tamils being the prominent race. Both Kosovo and Tamil Ealam has been waging the ethnic wars for over a period of ten years, while Kosovo since 1999, and the Tamil Ealam was eben prior to that date.
Now the moot question that lies before us,if Kosovo could become independant, why not Tamil Ealam which has an analogous history. Why the International community or the countries are adopting double standards for different countries when the UN resolution for the right to self- determination is very clear about it.If the UN resolution is applicable to Kosovo why not it be applicable to Tamil Ealam?
