President Obama is facing a nosedive in his popularity rating. He is blamed for slow recovery of the economy, budget deficit, continued war in Afghanistan and above all undermining freedom of Americans by removing their health care choice. Yet he seems to be the president who changed the social terrain of the country through legislative action. Health care reforms, financial regulation and the coming immigration overhaul will change United States radically. For the first time health care reforms will provide minimal cover to those who cannot afford to buy expensive health care. Financial regulation may correct the predatory behavior by world street bankers against the ordinary folks from mainstreet. War in Afghanistan, though apparently is not producing tangible success, is pushing Taliban against the wall. Surgical strikes against Taliban Leaders started generating fear among the rank and file and may prompt them to negotiate with the US backed administration. Pakistan army, which is the main sponsor of Taliban, is also encouraging their close confidantes among Taliban to negotiate with the Afghan government. Afghanistan is rich with mineral resources but it is without minimal infrastructure. Pakistan is interested in expanding its influence westward to gain control over the Afghan regime as its ambition in the east is restricted by much more prosperous, dynamic and militarily stronger India. Beneath apparent chaos Obama administration is showing subtle diplomacy and effective military strategy. He deserves the support of American people. Extremist fringes on the right are trying to mobilize people through patriotic gestures but they are actually hiding their fear of a successful Democratic administration under the first African American President. Their aggressive behaviour is actually masking their frustration and ineptitude. They have no alternative program to offer to Americans.
