We all know that period pains can be a right pain in the bum sometimes! I suffer from particularly nasty pains to the point where I have to call in sick to work. Of course, I can’t say to my boss that I am suffering from a bad period pain, so I have to make up some generalized excuse as to why I cannot come in. A friend recommended to use a cannabis tampon. Now, having never used cannabis before in any form, I was a little hesitant, as it does sound rather unusual and it’s not a wide spread product that is being used by millions across the country. But, despite my initial concerns, I thought I would give it a try.
I was worried at first that the cannabis tampons would make me high as a kite! But, I was told that the tampon doesn’t give a high but instead aims to reduce the pain using that you feel when you have a period through the power of THC in the cannabis. It is produced by a company called Foria who offer several conventional products that make use of the pain relieving properties of cannabis.
It is important to note at this stage that this product is not currently approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration. Nor has it been tested in clinical trials at this stage. But, anecdotal evidence is indeed entirely positive. Many users also say the tampons have helped with their lower back pain that they suffered from aswell.
When I used the cannabis tampons, I found that my cramps almost went away around an hour after I used the product. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t smell of cannabis. Instead, it smelt like cookie dough, which was even better! Who doesn’t like cookies when they are suffering?
In terms of cost, they are not overly cheap. At the end of the day, you are paying for a quality product. As of 2017, a pack of four costs approximately $44. This may therefore be considered as a “luxury product”. It could be an option to use normal tampons when the pain is not as bad, but if it gets to an excruciating level, then you can crack open a cannabis tampon to reduce the pain.
The makers of the tampons said it was their intention to bring the magical pain relieving properties of cannabis to the menstruation process. They say they make use of the latest technology to ensure that the latest extraction techniques are used, which ensures each tampon is made to the required standard and that it is safe to use.
At the moment, these tampons are only available in the US states of California and Colorado, but it is expected that they will be more widely available at a later date. You must have a medicinal marijuana card to use the product, or a doctor’s letter in these states aswell.
