Can Too Much Sex Harm You?

Recent studies are beginning to answer the ongoing question if too much sex can be harmful, and the answers may be surprising to men and women. It seems that the answer depends on the person’s sex. Women actually receive some health benefits, while too much sex can be potentially harmful to men.

Researchers have learned that there is almost no risk involved with women engaging in frequent sexual activity. It can help to improve posture, and strengthen and tone her abdominal and pelvic muscles. In fact, studies are showing that a lack of sexual activity can be potentially harmful for women who have already experienced menopause. One of the problems that women can develop is vaginal atrophy, which can cause dysparenia. While there might be an occasional issue with vaginal dryness during intercourse, this can easily be treated with a vaginal lubricant.

Can Too Much Sex Harm Men?

While women may receive some benefits from engaging frequently in intercourse, the opposite seems to be true for men. Adding to the problem for men, is the more common use of medications that allow men to sustain an erection longer. Even though the penis is a relatively strong sexual organ, too much use can cause damage to the penile tissue. Rougher intercourse and a lack of recovery time between orgasms can all lead to permanent tissue damage.

A man’s penis was designed to rest in between periods of sexual activity, which is why it is naturally flaccid. This allows the male sex organ to replenished the member with oxygen. While increased blood flow causes the penis to become erect, it also causes circulation to slow down once it is aroused. If a man does not allow this important organ to rest, blood flow and oxygen cannot reach the muscles in the penis. When this occurs, over time a man can develop a painful condition known as priapism. This is when the muscle is no longer able to deflate and cells can begin to die. Scarring can also occur, which can lead to erectile and ejaculation problems. If there is a continued lack of blood flow, the penile muscle can eventually die.

Other Problems Can Develop

There are other problems, both physical and psychological that can develop in men who are engaging in too much sex. While some are easily treated, others can have long lasting effects on his sexual performance.

* Bruises or Burns

Bruises and rug burns are normally the result of a sexual position, and can be easily prevented by simply refraining from using them in your sexual routine.

* Strained or Pulled Muscles

This is also normally caused by certain positions that force you to move your body in ways that it is not used too. Simply let your partner be in control for awhile, and you should still be able to enjoy sexual activities.

* Head Injury

This normally occurs during rough sex from your head hitting a wall or a head board. Simply remind yourself not to become so energetic the next time you are with your partner.

* Soreness and Swelling

This is more common in women than in men, and sometimes the only treatment is to refrain from having intercourse for a few days. Using a lubricant during sex can help to prevent soreness.

* Dehydration

Sexual activity not only burns calories, it can also cause you to work up a sweat. Drinking plenty of water can keep this problem from occurring.

* Urinary Tract Infection

This also affects women more frequently than men, and can be caused by having too much sex. Making sure to urinate both before and after intercourse can help prevent the problem, along with drinking plenty of water and even cranberry juice. Antibiotics are often needed to successfully treat the infection.

* Lower Back Pain

Rough sex and some sexual positions can cause lower back pain. Switching to positions that can include “Spooning” can help to relieve some of the pressure being felt on your lower back. Stretching exercises can also help to relieve lower back pain.

* Trouble Climaxing Again

It is natural for men to need a period of time to recover between orgasms. This helps sperm count to build back up, and oxygen and blood to flow back into the penis, which can also prevent other more serious problems that can occur from having too much sex.

* Decreased Vision

Occasionally, blood vessels in the eyes can burst which can lead to blurry vision. This problem will usually clear up in a couple of days.

These are more serious conditions that can affect men and women if they are engaging in too much sex. Heart attacks can happen, though rarely, and penile fractures can occur.

Conclusion

While men and women may think that they can never have too much sex, there can be harmful side effects. The best advice is to take everything in moderation and always listen to what your body is telling you.
