Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Justice (Retd.) Ejaz Nisar has directed that effective measures be taken to streamline the flow of traffic on both sides of Lahore Canal so that people should not face difficulty. He further directed that maximum number of trees be planted along the canal as well as other areas of the city for controlling environmental pollution.

He issued these instructions while presiding over a high level meeting regarding Canal Road Project, here today. Chief Secretary Punjab Salman Siddique, Chairman Planning and Development Suleman Ghani, Secretary Communication & Works Ahsan Raja, Director General Lahore Development Authority Arif Khan, Chief Engineer Highways Muhammad Arif Ch. and other senior officers were also present on the occasion. Chief Engineer TEPA Khushal Khan gave a detailed briefing about the project.

The Chief Minister said that maximum number of trees be planted in the province for environmental protection, strengthening of economy as well as meeting growing energy requirements. He said that better varieties of trees should be planted along the canal and the nearby roads and special attention be paid to the repair and maintenance of the canal banks. He said that concerned departments should make concerted efforts for the provision of civic amenities to the citizens. He said that quality infrastructure plays an important role in traffic management, provision of civic amenities and strengthening of economy, hence due attention is being paid to the improvement of communication system. He said that the new system of traffic management is playing an effective role in streamlining traffic, however, there is need for greater efforts for removing the occasional hurdles in the traffic flow.
