I have always been a Kennedy fan. I don’t know much about Caroline Kennedy except that she is the daughter of the most popular world leader during his time. I am of course referring to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America.
I was not even a teenager during the presidency of John F. Kennedy. But as I browse on my recent history books during my college days, I learned so many things from the popular US president. I was inspired first and foremost by one of his famous quotations which reads,’ Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country’
In his inaugural address he asked the nations of the world to join together to fight what he called the ‘common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself’ He said: ‘Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you’.
These statements remind me of Caroline Kennedy’s father who inspired me even more when he devoted so much of his time and efforts toward the propagation of civil liberties in America. He was instrumental in the campaign to put an end to racial discrimination and segregation. He encouraged Martin Luther King, the then icon of civil liberties to continue his advocacy by securing his release from jail. Kennedy inspired people around the world for having devoted his time for the advancement of freedom and democracy that we all enjoy today.
Some people say that these inspiring qualities are those of John F. Kennedy and it does not necessarily mean that Caroline will follow his father’s footsteps. It may be true and there is no guarantee that she will. But for those who want to find a good reason to believe that Caroline Kennedy is indeed a good choice to replace Hillary Clinton on account of her appointment as State Secretary, here is that one reason.
When I was a kid, I met an old man. He asked me a number of questions like where I am from and what I do. And then we had a little chat. As we parted ways, he said, ‘Tell me who your parents are… and will I tell you exactly who you are’ Today I am almost always reminded by what the old man said, I realized that parents really wield so much influence in molding the true character of their children.
Although his father passed away when she was just a kid, Caroline must have been greatly inspired by his father’s works and achievements.
I tend to believe that Caroline Kennedy will become a great Senator of the United States of America, not entirely because of her being the daughter of a famous US president but because of her perceived upright character and her own credentials as a civic leader.
Caroline Kennedy is the only surviving daughter of John F. Kennedy, the former president of the United States of America. She was born on November 27, 1957. She was six years old when her father was assassinated in 1963. Caroline is an author and a lawyer. She received her AB degree from Radcliffe College at Harvard University in 1979. She earned her J.D. from Columbia University Law School in 1988, graduating in the top 10% of her class.
Aside from being a lawyer and writer, Caroline serves in the board of The Funds for Public Schools, a public-private partnership founded in 2002 to attract private funding for public schools in New York City. She also worked as Director of the Office of Strategic Partnership for the New York City Department of Education until 2004.
As a civic leader Caroline Kennedy is actively involved in several charitable and civic organizations in New York and other parts of the US.
In her statement endorsing Barack Obama for president during the campaign, she sad,’ I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found a man who could be that president- not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans’.
There are a good number of aspirants for the Hillary Clinton senate seat and most of them have good credentials but Caroline Kennedy stands out as the best candidate for the position. The New York governor who has the sole power to appoint the next senator from New York will be definitely praised by most New Yorkers
