It has been known that Democratic Strategist James Carville has given his support to Senator Hillary Clinton of New York during the Democratic race. Carville had even clashed with New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson for his endorsement of now presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.
With Obama as the presumed Democratic nominee, he must find a VP running-mate. Many names have been tossed around in the process. Ohio Governor Ed Rendell had removed himself as a candidate for VP. Still, Rendell said that he will continue supporting and campaigning for Obama.
Recently, Carville has weighed in on the VP search. He has thrown a name in the air. But, it was not Hillary Clinton’s name. Unlike many Democrats, Carville did not toss Clinton’s name into the air.
Instead, Carville said that Obama should pick former VP Al Gore as his running mate. Gore has been the VP to former US President Bill Clinton for both terms.
“I think if I was Senator Obama I would say the biggest economic problem we face is the biggest national security problem and the biggest environmental problem,” Carville explained. He adds: “And if I were him, I would ask Al Gore to serve as his vice president, his energy czar, in his administration to reduce our consumption and reliance on foreign energy sources.”
But Carville did admit he would like to see an Obama-Clinton ticket. However, there are plenty that are not warm to such an idea.
However, Carville’s suggestion came with criticism.
Bill Bennett, a conservative commentator brushed off the idea. He said that the VP position does not carry much weight. Bennett said that he does not know anybody that would want to be VP again.
He said that Obama needs someone with experience in foreign policy. Still, the VP search goes on. At the same time, presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona is still looking for his running-mate.
