With Heimtextil being one of the biggest fairs for home and kitchen furnishings, it is often described as the benchmark for quality home textiles in a calendar year. Each year, a panel of experts brainstorm on the general textile trends, and publish the trend prognoses to help designers, textile manufacturers, and brand owners draw inspirations and follow set themes for the season. Each year, an independent group comprising of industry experts is selected to do this job, and for 2016 the responsibility was given to WGSN Group from the USA.
In 2016, the theme developed by the WGSN Group was declared as ‘Well-Being 4.0’, and it was conceptualized based on the detailed review and analysis of consumer trends in the home and garden space. This Well-being 4.0 trend is touted last for good few years, before waning off. The Group has also spearheaded the design of the Theme Park this year, which is situated in Hall 6.0 of Messe Frankfurt. The Group affirms that the trends and themes for the season will be defined by a collaborative approach that restores customer-centred design with added appeal to the senses. Well-being 4.0 is all about textile furnishings that signify the quality of relaxation, primarily geared towards offering a better life and greater well-being.
The term 4.0 stands for smart, digital and customised solutions that trigger positive feelings and responses to stimuli in this touchscreen dominated smart generation. The trend will bring about a connection between the natural and the artificial, facilitated by user and eco-friendly technologies. In addition, the new trend advocates for natural materials and handcrafted products to reserve a place on the shelves of creative and futuristic design.
