Leh, July 20 (Scoop News)- The first ever Handloom and Handicraft Ladakh Craft Bazaar and a showroom was inaugurated by CEC LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar today.
The Ladakh Craft Bazaar was a big dream of Council which finally took shape in real under their initiative. The main objective behind establishing this bazaar is to preserve the dying value of local craft in the district and to promote it by motivating the artisans and local youths with a creative hand in field to take it up as a means of their income generation.
“We have always taken pride in our locally manufactured products but the lack of its marketing has been a big reason for its low cost value but LCB showcasing more than 20 traits of Ladakhi handloom and handicraft under one roof and the showroom with variety of local products will not only increase the value of our handicraft but will prove an excellent source of revenue generation for a large portion of local population with the increased flow of domestic and foreign tourists in the region,” asserted CEC.
Calling LCB a step towards sustainable development Spalbar urged every Ladakhi to respect and preserve every form of cultural values. He urged the artisans in every part of the district to get their manufactured craft products ensuring its good quality to LCB that will fetch them good market price for their products with some amount paid in advance.
CEC directed the Handloom and Handicraft departments to publish pamphlets on LCB and showroom and distribute it to hotels, guest houses, and travel agencies for its wide publicity among the tourists. He also made it clear that the craftsman indulge in selling at the LCB will also be working practically in producing those products.
Speaking on the occasion Gurmet Dorjery, EC Tourism said that LCB has been a dream conceptualized with a fund of Rs.1.06 cr under district plan and has come up as an opportunity for the youth to look beyond govt. jobs by exploring the potential in Handicraft and Handloom.
The AD Handicraft Sonam Gurmet highlighted the need to preserve and promote the traditional craft skill. On the occasion individual artisans and village SHGs has put different stalls showcasing their products which were highly appreciated by Spalbar.
The guests present on the occasion were P Namgial, Former Union Minister, MLC Norbu Gyaltsan, Councilor Lamayuru, SE PWD and District Officers.
