Durga Puja, five days of the largest festivities of Hindus in Bangladesh, has begun on 17 October 2007.The main Puja mandap in the capital is at Dhakeshwari National Temple. Large mandaps have been built at Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University, the Ramkrishna Mission, Ramna Kali Mondir, Siddheshwari Kali Mondir, Tanti Bazar, Shankhari Bazar, Bangla Bazar, and at Mohakhali and Farmgate areas.Marking the festival more than 20,000 puja pandals, tastefully decorated with festoons, banners, multi-coloured bulbs and miniature flags, were erected across the country including 162 in the capital city alone.Bijaya Dashami will be on Sunday,21 October 2007.This year the ‘Bijoya Dashami’ reception will be held at Bangabhaban, the president’s palace on 21 October, Sunday at 10.30 a.m.
In a message, Swami Chidananda Saraswati, chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote, its chief co-ordinator Monoj Kumar Mandal and secretary general Advocate Gobinda Chandra Pramanik conveyed greetings to the people of the country, particularly to the caretaker government on the occasion of Durga Puja.
They said the members of the Hindu community has been passing their days in more happiness and peace now than in the past.
