Central Government doing nothing to defuse border tension: Vakil

Rafiabad,October 11, (Scoop News)- Commenting on the present Border skirmish, Former Minister and Vice President JKPCC Abdul Gani Vakil today said that dialogue, unambiguously is the only way and platform to move ahead to resolve all vexed issues. He said present Central Government has not done anything to defuse border tension which has affected sizeable population and cropped up miseries for them. He said that war even on small scale brings destruction and can’t be of any help to either side. He said ultimately talks follow the war because it is the only medium we adopt in every situation.

Mr. Vakil stressed upon the State and Central Government to speed up the rehabilitation work of flood affected people in the whole State and complete it in a time bound manner so that Assembly Elections are held at earliest here without any inordinate delay. He said that Election Commission of India must take cognizance of every aspect and play its role in strengthening the democratic institutions in the State and announce the schedule of Assembly Elections because the democratically elected Government is more accountable than any other arrangement. Mr. Vakil was addressing party workers convention at Achabal Rafiabad.
Mr. Vakil said that after floods people are now becoming the victim of anxiety and confusion as adequate and liberal financial assistance for rehabilitation work is confined to papers only. While expressing his serious concern over the fact that present Central Government is not seriously tackling the situation in the J&K as was done by the UPA Government during 2005 earthquake. He urged the State Government to issue a White Paper on the scale of devastation and damages viz.a viz. financial and other assistance received from all sources and utilized so far; so that no body takes advantage of the situation that has arisen here. Mr. Vakil said that NGOs working for the cause as well needs to be made accountable.
Former Minister also said that obviously situation here demands that State Government must take a review of Darbar Move system and strike balance in such a way that pace of rehabilitation work as well as regional aspiration are upheld to the satisfactory level.
Besides others who addressed the gathering include Sr. Congress Leaders Ghulam Nabi Shah, Advocate Javed Masoodi, Advocate Hussamudin Gilani, Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan, Altaf Khan /Alias King Khan.
