Central team visits Kargil, assess on spot cloud burst, flash flood damages

 

Kargil, September, 16 (Scoop News) – To assess damages caused to infrastructure and other public and private property, a three member Central team headed by  Mukesh Sharma arrived Kargil yesterday and visited various flood affected areas of Shaker Chicktan block the worst flood affected area of the district.

            The team also convened a meeting of Officers at Bodh Kharboo to discuss the overall situation arisen in the district due to cloudburst andflash floods.

 Minister for Transport and CA&PD,  Qamar Ali Akhoon, Chairman LAHDC Kargil, Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan, Executive Councilor works and power Gh. Rasool, Executive Councilor, Agriculture, Haji Ghulam Amir, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil,  M. Raju also attended the meeting.

While giving a brief of damages, Deputy Commissioner apprised the committee that property worth Rs.80 crore has been lost in the district during the resent cloudburst and Flash flood. He said that 429 road  communication schemes, 96 head works of Irrigation schemes,108 Water supply schemes, 990 Rural development schemes,2 power stations, 2 school buildings ,onefood store, one community health centre,one fish farm got  damaged  due to flood. Besides, 318 hectares Agriculture land, 50 thousand poplar and Willow trees, 384 live stocks and about 50 residential houses also washed away in flash floods.

 Raju also told that temporary restoration works of link roads, Irrigation schemes and water supply schemes started on war footing and maximum number of schemes restored so far while work on left over schemes is in full swing. He said that District Administration needs Rs. 30 crore to meet the expenditure to be incurred on restoration work. He also said that state government has released Rs 4 crore so far to carry out the restoration work of essential services.

Addressing on the occasion,  Akhoon said that the District administration needs liberal financial assistance from state and central government to rebuilt the damaged infrastructure and rehabilitation of the flood affected people .He thanked the central committee for visiting kargil to assess the quantum of damages.

  Kachoo also expressed his satisfaction over the visit of the central team to review the loss of public and private property caused by recent flash flood in the district.
