What will happen to Chael Sonnen? He is facing a $2,500 fine and a one year suspension. He will have thirty days to appeal the suspension. Chael Sonnen received $35,000 for his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117. The $2,500 fine will not hurt him. On the other hand, being suspended for one year will hurt his career. Chael Sonnen already hurt his career by cheating so he could beat up Anderson Silva at UFC 117.
The UFC and Dana White will lose big time from this situation. The UFC finally had a contender who could match up with Anderson Silva. The Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva rematch would have made big bucks for the UFC. Now the UFC is getting a bad name. Chael Sonnen was getting a ton of press for his fight against Anderson Silva. Now the press is all bad. Many big name UFC fighters have been caught up in Steroid controversies in recent years. Here are some of the names. Chael Sonnen, Josh Barnett, Sean Sherk, Tim Sylvia and Shane Carwin have all failed drug tests or been implicated for Steroid use. Shane Carwin lucked out because his implication dated back before his affiliation with the UFC. This makes one think the UFC is slowly becoming a WWE counterpart.
Anderson Silva lost big time in this situation. Chael Sonnen schooled Anderson Silva in the ring. Anderson Silva left a wounded champion. He has bruised ribs that need to be healed. The rematch between the two fighters will not happen if this suspension goes through. Anderson Silva will not have the chance to show the world his showing at UFC 117 was a fluke. This will probably hurt his confidence because he will not know why he was beaten up so badly.
The fans of the UFC will pay the most for the cheating of a few UFC fighters. Some people will compare the UFC to the WWE. You have a former WWE champion as your UFC Heavyweight champion in Brock Lesnar. You have more and more UFC fighters being caught using Steroids. Will the UFC be considered a fake sport in the future? I am a huge fan and I hope this never happens. This will be a great disappointment to many UFC fans. Many fans pay the Pay Per View fees for each one of the UFC events. They support the UFC with their hard earned cash. Now these fans do not get to see the rematch between Sonnen and Silva.
Chael Sonnen is a cheater. He used "Natural Steroids" to lay a beat down on Anderson Silva at UFC 117. He actually informed the commission before his test that he would test positive. This leaves us with one question: What will happen next in the UFC? Will the UFC clean out their closet? Will Chael Sonnen be kicked out of the UFC for good? Will Anderson Silva lose his confidence? I will be watching the whole story. As A UFC fan, I hope the UFC does not turn out to be our worst nightmare.
